There is an increasing expectation that managers and leaders do their jobs well, to the benefit of the people they lead. Gone are the days of command and control (apparently!). In the workplace people have high expectations, with good reason. Yet the ILM reports that 90% of employees have had a poor manager.

Coaching skills aren’t magic! But they help leaders support their team members well and empower them to do their best and be happy at work.

Coach or mentor? Ask or advise?

The #1 hot topic for many coaches is “should I give advice, or hold back?” Although we haven’t seen full blown fist fights – after all we are coaches – we have seen plenty of heated discussions about it. We have a strong view at LYC – advice is off the table save for emergencies.
